About The SCEC

...Let's Advocate Together:

The Student Council for Exceptional Children is a segment of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). The CEC is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted.

CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for newly and historically underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

SCEC has its own Executive Committee and Board of Governors and is authorized by its Constitution and Bylaws to accept state and provincial student associations as segments of its structure.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is three-fold. Primarily, we wish to spread awareness among Ohio State students as to the personal and educational needs of exceptional children. Secondly, we provide a social forum for students with common interests in special education and special needs. Lastly, we provide opportunities for students to volunteer throughout the community.

Our Goals:

1. Promote and advocate for the advancement of the education of individuals with exceptionalities.

2. Increase awareness to improve educational and personal outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities (including students with disabilities and students who are gifted or talented).
